Festival of Lights in Singapore

Diwali or Deepavali (In Sanskrit, it means a row of lamps), the most colourful Indian festival, is celebrated on the Kartika Amavasya or New Moon, which typically falls during October/November. This year, it is on the 17th October. So, the Avid Marketer decides to take a trip to Little India to experience the atmosphere!
The trip started off with dinner at the Banana Leaf Apolo where food is nicely served on a freshly cut Banana leaf. What’s for dinner? The Apolo Chicken Dum Briyani!
The walk down Serangoon Road continued after dinner…
In Singapore, Diwali is marked by 2 kilometres of lights across the Little India area. There are several legends which explain why lamps are lit during Deepavali. But there seems to be a common theme about these legends: good will eventually overcome evil. So by lighting lamps during Deepavali, Hindus celebrate the victory of light over darkness.
The streets were filled with people, scrambling to get last minute shopping done and walking around to experience the sounds and sights. Come, join me on a photo trail by simply clicking on the album below!
